Semiconductor Laser Workshop
San Jose, California | 21 May 2010
Dear Colleague,
It is my pleasure to invite you to attend and participate in the 2010 IEEE Photonics Society Semiconductor Laser Workshop, which following tradition will be held on the last day of CLEO, Friday, 21 May 2010, at the Hilton in San Jose, California. The workshop will begin at 7:30 a.m. with registration and a continental breakfast, followed by introductory remarks at 8:15 a.m., and the start of the morning sessions at 8:30 a.m. The CLEO program committee will arrange its schedule so that no Semiconductor Laser sessions overlap the workshop.
There will be two parallel morning sessions, and two parallel afternoon sessions. Morning sessions run from 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., followed by lunch from 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Afternoon sessions begin at 1:00 p.m. and run to 4:00 p.m., followed by a wrap-up session from 4:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Based on member input, four topics have been chosen. The session chairs have prepared short topic descriptions which are attached. Please consider making a short presentation of preferably unpublished material at one or more of the sessions, and contact the appropriate session chair at the (email) address provided. We specifically request you do not repeat a CLEO presentation. In keeping with the spirit and tradition of the workshop: speculative proposals, preliminary results, and big ideas are perfectly fine and much preferred as presentations!
Morning Sessions (8:30 a.m. − 11:30 a.m.)
| Topic: High Speed/ Laser Dynamics Chair: Luke Lester, University of New Mexico |
Topic: Long-Wavelength and Mid-IR Lasers Chair: Mariano Troccoli, Adtech Optics |
Afternoon Sessions (1:00 p.m. − 4:00 p.m.)
| Topic: Microcavity and Nanoscale Lasers Chair: Ming Wu, UC Berkeley |
Topic: High Power Semiconductor Lasers Chair: Dan Grasso, Coherent Inc |
Presentations from your own laptop, USB memory device, or CD are preferred. We request you keep your presentation to 5 slides or less to encourage discussions. There are no proceedings or abstracts required - just your presence and enthusiasm!
The advance registration fee of $225 for IEEE/Photonics Society Members ($270 for Non-Members) includes the workshop, continental breakfast, A.M. & P.M. breaks, and lunch. These fees have been significantly reduced compared to last year. Since the number of attendees for the workshop is limited, please return your registration form as soon as possible. The deadline for pre-registration is 23 April 2010. Please take a few minutes to complete the Online Registration at: http://www.photonicsconferences.org/SCW2010
Of course, on-site registration is also possible (but the rates do go up).
I look forward to seeing you at the workshop!
Cordially,
